Exercise 2 description

This exercise is to give you practice in keeping the top-level dataflow diagram up-to-date with what you find in your investigations of the processes on it. We'll concentrate on just one.

Setting the scene

We've interviewed Bo Sibbuts who is the Sales Team Leader. From the meeting notes and some further digging afterwards, we drew the dataflow diagram showing the decompostion of Process 1, 'Sell Product and Take Order'

Here's the dataflow diagram we drew

(click for larger image, opens in a new window)

Now we need to summarise it upwards onto the top level dataflow diagram to replace what's already there for process 1.

The steps you need to take:

  • Grab the top-level dfd we've prepared for you for this
  • Next, review the dataflow diagram above. It's the one from Exercise 1
  • If you need it, here's a link to the Organisation Chart
  • Now you have everything to hand to bring the top-level up to date by drawing in the summary of the decomposition.

Once you get started, it shouldn't take you more than an hour or two.
