Charles Church, War Memorial

Charles Church is the only 17th century church to be built in Devon. It was dedicated to King Charles the Martyr, and consecrated by Bishop Seth Ward in 1664. It was destroyed during the blitz of 1941 except for its tower and walls and now stands as a memorial to World War II.

It presently forms a roundabout giving access to and from the city centre from the east side. Plans being considered allow for its inclusion, still as a memorial, as part of a pedestrianised city centre.
