The photographer's impression: Six naked angels with arms outstretched and supported by spikes.

This imposing 6 metre sculpture by artist Rick Kirkby is called 'Formation' and is executed in welded mild stainless steel. It is to be found on the roundabout at the entrance to Ravenswood estate, Ipswich, site of the old airport, and commemorates the RAF.

The six female forms represent planes flying in formation while five searchlights pierce the sky, pinning their position.
