A statue of the first king of Lithuania, Mindaugas standing outside the Lithuanian National Gallery. Mindaugas, who accepted Christianity in 1251 was crowned king in Vilnius Cathedral in 1253, only to be murdered in a conspiracy between his pagan nephew, Treniota, and Daumantas, a Lithuanian princeling.
