Tower

Mount Batten Tower is a scheduled ancient monument. It was built in 1652 at the start of the Anglo-Dutch war, across the harbour from what is now the citadel. It's a 10 metre high gun tower and, with room for ten gun emplacements on its roof, was built to guard the the southern approach to Plymouth harbour. During the second world war it was armend with two quick firing guns.

Today it's under the control of Plymouth Council and is occasionally opened to the public.
