Red and Green

These red flowers contrast beautifully against the green of the picket fence, stretching their petals towards the bright sunlight.

They are trying their best to attract the attentions of the right pollinating insects - or perhaps evolution is working in a different way here. Maybe the survival of the species depends more on market forces? Looking beautiful in a garden means more people buy them from market gardens; the more that are bought, the more they are bred. Hmmm.
