Obituary murel

Within a week or two of the death (the real one, not the one he faked a few years before) of Robert Lenkiewitz, this murel had been painted on the hoarding of a building site, just off the Barbican where Robert had his art / workshop for so very many years.

The lettering reads 'Rest in Peace' and on the right, 'Respect Paint' - a fitting obituary and plea for this artist who wasn't afraid to explore his relationship with paint, himself, death, sexulity and others.

He was also a kind man who fought for the rights of the homeless, the homeless who featured as the models for so many of his exploratory works. He made fair payment for the sittings and far fom exploiting them, as sometimes accused, he offered respect and friendship to those that society had chosen to demean.
