In this close-up of the Drake memorial on Plymouth Hoe Promenade, the artist has captured the essence of the man.

His proud demanour and bearing, the Elizabethan nobleman attire, the globe under his hand, representing his mastery as the maritime adventurer who circumnavigated it in a forty-foot cutter, the sword at his side (we'll skip mention of the tights!) - the image captured does justice to the picture painted by history.
