Lighthouse Texture

This up close and personal view of Smeatons Tower lighthouse was taken with the sun low in the clear evening sky. The lengthening shadows emphasise the rough texture of the stone - it is so tactile that you can almost reach out and feel the cool, rough stone.

The upward angle of the shot, the red and white banding, the texture fading as the lighthouse lines sweeps up and away; the plaques and open windows and shutters; all give a breathtaking, clean and crisp shot, unique amongst lighthouse images.
