Bovisand second beach

Mid June and Bovisand beaches are starting to fill up with sun-seekers. Bovisand has the advantage of being just on the outskirts of Plymouth with a frequent bus service shipping the locals and switched-on tourists back and forth.

Despite its easy reach from the city, the three beaches (this is the middle beach) are only full on the hottest of summer days. This picture shows the scene on a Sunday at 3:30 in the afternoon in the middle of a roasting day in June; not deserted but neither overcrowded.

The cliffs' green arms nestle the beach as the coast wends its way around to Fort Bovisand, whose columns and arches can just be made out on the next headland.
