Traditional Sea Farewell

In Lithuania it is the tradition that people who have been staying close to the sea say a special farewell. In the late evening they make their way to the beach, and down to the shore. As the sun sets, they throw something of value - a coin or a trinket - into the sea and in their heart they hold the thought of pleasant memories and an intention to return.

In this photo the group just walking down the causeway are on their way to do just that.
